Manhattan Farewell, 1963 (Hank Aaron, Jesse Gonder and Tony Venzon) Edition size 75, archival pigment inkjet print, image 12" x 18"
Hammerin' Hank Aaron digs in at the Polo Grounds, in one of the last major league baseball games played in Manhattan. One of only four players to ever hit a ball into the center-field stands at the Grounds, Aaron of the Milwaukee Braves was captured in the lens of SPORT magazine photographer Martin Blumenthal in this classic shot, along with New York Mets catcher Jesse Gonder and umpire Tony Venzon, from September 1963. The photograph has been created from the original colour transparency.
